A few very important team members

Every workshop needs supervision. Mine comes with paws.

Every cat and dog in our family is a rescue. This page celebrates the companions beside us and remembers those who will always be part of our story. They’re a big part of why we believe in second chances.

If you’re able, please consider helping other animals find safety, care, and a loving home. Visit the ASPCA and choose Donate to give directly through its official website.

Meet Dave

The human behind the cats

Hi, I’m Dave, the human behind Nine Lives Tech in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

I’ve spent over 35 years repairing computers, building servers, and designing websites. I’m a born nerd who enjoys figuring out how things work—and helping people feel more comfortable with the technology they use. My approach is simple: listen, explain the options plainly, and find a practical way forward.

I started Nine Lives Tech because I believe useful computers deserve another chance—and people deserve access to them. Alongside repairs, upgrades, and website work, I’m building a program to refurbish donated computers and give them to people who need them.

In my spare time, you’ll usually find me watching a B movie, anime, or Godzilla, or happily reading a technical manual. Curiosity doesn’t really switch off around here. You don’t need to speak fluent computer to talk to me, though—that’s my part of the job.

The cats handle supervision, keyboard inspections, and occasionally knocking the tools off the desk. I handle the repairs.

Every computer deserves another life. Everyone deserves access to one.

Meet the technicians

The current crew.

Four feline technicians and one honorary cat. Every member brings a very particular set of skills.

Squeaks, our pale orange-and-white senior lap technician, with his distinctive crooked ear

Senior Lap Technician

Squeaks

Orange cat · The eldest

With his crooked ear and unwavering loyalty, Squeaks is the elder statesman of the crew. An eternal lap cat, he takes staying close to his person very seriously.

Ollie, an orange-and-white cat, settled in a cardboard box

Escape & Cuddle Specialist

Ollie

Orange cat

An escape artist with a cuddly side. Ollie brings equal enthusiasm to finding a way out and settling in for a cuddle.

Mabel, a black cat with bright yellow-green eyes and a white chest patch

Head of Destructive Testing

Mabel

Black cat

The chaos kitty. Mabel specializes in knocking everything off the desk and finding out what breaks. No desk item escapes the possibility of a gravity test.

Ellie, a black cat with yellow-green eyes, curled up in a white sink

Chief Meow Officer

Ellie

Black cat · The kitten

The loudest member of the team, Ellie always has something to say. Still a kitten, she would much rather turn every working hour into playtime.

Charlie, a black dog with an amber eye and white chest patch, resting on a turquoise blanket

Honorary Feline Technician

Charlie

Dog · Cat at heart

Charlie is our dog, although she seems convinced she belongs on the cat roster. A lovable scaredy-cat, she fits right in with her feline colleagues.

Fallen Heroes

Always part of Nine Lives.

This space is for the cats who are no longer beside us, but remain part of our lives and the story behind Nine Lives Tech.

Sam, a black cat with green eyes, sitting on patterned bedding

The Supervisor

Sam

Loving, endlessly curious, and an expert bug catcher, Sam was our Supervisor. Always loved, always part of Nine Lives.

Mert, a black cat with pale green eyes and white whiskers, resting on a turquoise blanket

A heart full of joy

Mert

Mert loved climbing onto shoulders and had a heart full of joy. She loved everyone and was happy to greet anyone who came through the door. Her warm welcomes will always be part of our home.

Max, also known as Pooks, a gray cat with green eyes sitting on a blue blanket

The King

Max (Pooks)

Gentle, intelligent, and full of quiet dignity, Max ruled the cats in his own way. Known affectionately as Pooks, he was the Spock to my Kirk.

Mocha, a long-haired brown tabby with a white muzzle, resting among gray cushions

The Grouchy One

Mocha

Mocha chose her people carefully, but once she decided you were hers, you had her heart. She was our grouchy girl, and no one was more excited when dinner time arrived.
